BIO

Russell Haehl is currently one of the most highly sought after trumpet players in Houston. He enjoys positions as first trumpet and artistic director of the Houston Brass Quintet as well as principal solo cornet with the Magnolia City Brass Band. He has performed with the Houston Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, APERIO, Loop38, ECHO Chamber Orchestra, and Baytown Symphony. Russell also performs often with many different event bands in Houston, church music ministries, and weddings.

Equally passionate about music education, Russell is in high demand teaching masterclasses all over Houston, and maintains a private lessons studio out of his home in central Houston. In 2022, Russell was appointed Trumpet Instructor of the Houston Youth Symphony, the premier youth orchestra program in Houston. He is also currently the trumpet instructor at the Kinkaid School as well as the Village School. His students have gone on to Baylor College of Music, summer programs such as AFA and Texas Music Festival, and TMEA 6A All-State Orchestra.

Russell is a native Houstonian, attended HISD music magnet schools, including the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. From there he completed his Bachelors of Music at University of Texas’ Butler School of Music, and his Masters of Music at University of Houston’s Moores School of Music. His primary teachers include Mark Hughes, Bob Walp, Ray Sasaki, Dennis Dotson, and Theresa Hanebury. Apart from music, Russell enjoys cooking, golf, and hanging out with his fiancé, Megan, and two dogs, Rodie and Gryff.
